Ed Yourdon's
Times Square Time Bomb 2000

Posted September 15, 1999

Back in the 1970's when I was learning all about structured analysis, design, and programming, Ed Yourdon was writing some of the best known books on the subject. In fact, a number of them are still on my bookshelves.

As Ed Yourdon mildly put it, he had "a pessimistic outlook about the outcome of Y2K". That pessimism led in 1998 to his decision to move with his family to New Mexico. He wrote, "When I decided to move from New York City to New Mexico last year, some of the Y2K activists criticized me severely for 'abandoning' New York."

I didn't blame him for choosing to leave New York City. He went with his best judgment.  Expecting a time bomb in the year 2000, he headed out of town. For more information, you might want to read his book: Time Bomb 2000: What the Year 2000 Crisis Means to You. For more of his views on Y2K, visit Yourdon's Web site.

So what would have  happened if Yourdon's time bomb 2000 had dropped on NYC? Click this little time bomb to find out! WARNING: this animation is large (about 87K).
