Abandoned Dredge, Copper Mining Legacy

Our son Daniel Torkelson, 16, created the images shown below for presentation at the Fourth Biennial Lake Superior Symposium, held at Michigan Technological University (MTU) May 17th - 20th, 2001. He used Caligari TrueSpace 5.0, Bryce 4.0, Photoshop 6.0, and (for the printed versions) an Epson 780 Photo Printer to create these images. Before sitting down at the computer, he spent several hours at the site, sketching and photographing the dredge and the surrounding area. The photographs were not just memory joggers; he used snippets from the photos to create the textures used for the dredge's siding and for the gray stamp sands.
